GS Yuasa lithium-ion storage system receives new energy award

GS Yuasa Corporation has been awarded the New Energy Foundation Chairman’s Award at the 2024 New Energy Awards for its lithium-ion battery storage system.

Developed in collaboration with Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions Corporation and Honda Motor Co., Ltd., the system is installed at Honda’s Kumamoto Factory.

The energy storage system (ESS) is the largest lithium-ion battery storage facility (20MWh) at a domestic business site in Japan. It operates alongside a 7.1MW solar power generation system, storing surplus solar energy for use when renewable generation is insufficient.

The system aims to maximise clean energy use, supporting sustainability and energy security. The project introduces new battery control and management methods and is intended as a model for future large-scale energy storage installations.

GS Yuasa is committed to developing advanced energy storage solutions.
