Ferrari F40 crashed by mechanic during test drive

A rare and highly valuable Ferrari F40 was involved in a serious accident on Thursday afternoon in Markyate, Hertfordshire. The incident occurred while the vehicle was undergoing service at an undisclosed location – although the accident happened near to where Bell Sport & Classic are based.

The vehicle collided with a lamppost, resulting in significant damage. Photographs from the scene showed the car on its side, with the front clamshell completely torn off, exposing the front wheels, suspension, and radiator.

The driver, a service technician employed by the mystery garage, was transported to Luton and Dunstable Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Lawrence Whittaker, owner of Lister, a renowned British racing car manufacturer, expressed his dismay at the incident on social media. “Heartbreaking F40 huge crash on the A5 today! Apparently it was in with a specialist for some work?” he tweeted.

The Ferrari F40, with its 3.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine producing 471 horsepower, is a highly sought-after collector’s car. Only around 1,300 examples were ever produced, making this particular vehicle a rare and valuable asset.

Hertfordshire Police confirmed that they were called to the scene of the accident at 12:50 PM on Thursday.
