GS Yuasa Batteries power Michibiki No. 6 satellite

GS Yuasa lithium-ion batteries have been installed in the Quasi-Zenith Satellite No. 6 (Michibiki No. 6), launched on 2 February 2025. This satellite, developed by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation for the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), is part of Japan’s Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS).

QZSS operates with the U.S. Global Positioning System (GPS) to provide precise positioning services, including in challenging environments. Applications include autonomous vehicles, maritime navigation, logistics, and infrastructure.

GS Yuasa’s space-use lithium-ion batteries have been used in over 250 spacecraft since the early 2000s, including all six Michibiki satellites.

Mike Taylor of GS Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd. highlighted the company’s expertise in lithium-ion technology and its role in advanced space missions. He also emphasised the company’s commitment to delivering reliable energy solutions for various applications, including automotive, industrial, and renewable energy.

GS Yuasa’s lithium-ion and lead-acid batteries support critical infrastructure globally.
