Schaeffler’s Wrenches & Wisdom campaign, an initiative focused on workshop apprenticeships, aftermarket career paths, and training, recently visited Durham College. As part of this ongoing campaign, which launched in 2024, Schaeffler aims to educate the independent aftermarket on the benefits of apprenticeships and upskilling staff with current product and systems training.
Alistair Mason, Schaeffler’s Technical Services Manager, conducted an “invaluable” clutch system training session for Durham College students. The training covered common fitment issues and solutions, guidance on information sourcing, and an overview of other Schaeffler products.
Mason emphasised the importance of supporting those beginning or considering an automotive career: “Hosting training sessions for people at the start of their automotive career journey, or about to embark on one, is really important. We need to support them wherever we can, because starting out in a new profession is daunting, and an understanding of the market and the products they will encounter is of vital importance to them.” He noted that students are keen to learn about complex clutch systems to ensure correct installation and career progression.
The Wrenches & Wisdom campaign aims to achieve multiple objectives: introducing young people to genuine OE brands, encouraging workshop owners to hire apprentices, and providing new training opportunities to those in or considering careers in the automotive industry. Schaeffler states that all efforts within this campaign are designed to benefit both young professionals and the aftermarket sector broadly.
