Automotive lighting manufacturer, OSRAM, recently invested in the future of the industry by providing training to apprentices at North London Garages GTA.
Recognising the vital role apprentices play in the automotive aftermarket, OSRAM representatives delivered a session to over 30 attendees, including those from the RAC.
The training day, held in Enfield, focused on key areas such as bulb technology, upselling and fitting techniques, and the importance of using high-quality products. Terri Clark, Lighting Marketing Manager at OSRAM, highlighted the value of the session: “We were impressed by the number of engaged apprentices eager to learn. Several expressed their goal of owning a garage, and bulb sales can be a lucrative area, especially with services like fitment, paired replacements, and premium upgrades.”
Clark further emphasised a gap in the market: “There’s a significant profit opportunity in bulbs, yet many workshops miss this chance. We aim to educate the next generation of technicians on the value of charging for these services, benefiting both themselves and their customers.”
Marketing Director for OSRAM’s UK subsidiary, RING, Henry Bisson, also participated in the training. He explained their motivation: “We learned about North London Garages’ apprenticeship program through Schaeffler, another industry partner. Their commitment to training motivated us to contribute. These apprentices will be shaping the industry for decades to come, and offering them guidance is a worthwhile investment.”
Bisson stressed the importance of supporting such initiatives: “Our industry desperately needs qualified technicians. London’s apprenticeship program that trains and places young talent deserves industry-wide backing. Without such programs, the future of our sector could be at risk. We’re pleased the training was well-received, and we look forward to offering further support in the future.”
