Nearly half of LCVs fail MOTs due to faulty lights

A recent Freedom of Information request revealed that nearly half of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) fail their initial MOT tests due to lighting issues.

This concerning statistic, especially during the winter months when lights are crucial, prompts OSRAM, a leading automotive lighting specialist, to emphasize the importance of using high-quality bulbs.

Safety Concerns Highlighted

The data, obtained by Select Leasing, indicates that 36% of LCVs failed their MOTs between 2023 and 2024, with 47% of those failures attributed to faulty lamps, reflectors, or electrical equipment. Considering the vital role lights play in driver safety, these figures raise significant concerns.

OSRAM Recommends OE-Quality Bulbs

With over a century of experience in the automotive industry, OSRAM champions the use of original equipment (OE) quality bulbs for LCVs. Their extensive product range caters to various needs, including the OSRAM ORIGINAL Line 12V, a trusted OE-equivalent bulb suitable for various headlight and auxiliary applications.

For drivers seeking an upgrade, OSRAM offers the NIGHT BREAKER® 220, their brightest halogen bulb. This option boasts up to 220% more light output, a 150-meter beam length, and 20% whiter light compared to the minimum legal standard. These features enhance visibility and reaction times in low-light conditions.

By choosing OSRAM bulbs, LCV drivers can benefit from superior quality, extended lifespan, optimized light intensity, and vibration resistance. This ensures reliable performance and promotes safety on the road.
