Launch Tech UK has donated a Motorcycle MOT IV diagnostic system to Boston College to support technical education. The equipment is being used by approximately 38 motorcycle engineering students to develop skills in fault-finding, sensor troubleshooting, and electrical diagnostics.
According to Boston College, Level 3 students have applied the technology to resolve issues involving wiring defects, traction control, and ABS systems. The college stated:
“Level 3 students have been making extensive use of the Launch motorcycle diagnostic equipment provided to the department, enabling them to diagnose, fault-find, and rectify a wide range of electrical and sensor-related issues.”
The donation included a borescope, which students have used to inspect cylinder bores, fuel tank integrity, and exhaust blockages. A notable project involved the restoration of a dismantled Suzuki SV600. Students used the diagnostic tools to identify incorrect electrical connections, parasitic battery drains, and crossed indicator wiring, eventually restoring the vehicle to full functionality.
Level 2 students have also utilised the equipment to diagnose ignition coil circuit faults. By analysing live data before and after repairs, learners reinforced diagnostic best practices. The college noted:
“This has significantly enhanced their diagnostic competence and understanding of modern motorcycle electrical systems.”
The partnership is intended to bridge the gap between classroom theory and workshop application, ensuring students are prepared for the technical requirements of the motorcycle repair industry.
