GS Yuasa has announced that its newly developed EHW4GA automotive lithium-ion battery has been chosen as original equipment (OE) for the all-new Toyota RAV4 hybrid in overseas markets. The battery utilizes low-resistance technology to deliver 10% improvements in energy density and input/output performance compared to previous units.
The cells and modules are produced by Blue Energy Co., Ltd., a joint venture established in 2009 by the GS Yuasa Group. The EHW4GA features a redesigned die-cast module case intended to reduce both weight and overall component count. Peter Whittaker, General Manager, Automotive and Motorcycle at GS Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd, stated:
“This selection by Toyota is a strong endorsement of GS Yuasa’s technology, quality and reliability, as well as our proven track record in delivering high-performance battery solutions for hybrid vehicles worldwide.”
Blue Energy has supplied batteries for more than 4 million hybrid vehicles globally since its inception. This latest milestone is intended to support the transition toward electrification through high-performance battery technology. The company noted that with its “extensive track record and advanced technological capabilities, GS Yuasa will continue to contribute to the widespread adoption of environmentally friendly vehicles.”
