FORVIA HELLA has been awarded a significant contract by a global premium manufacturer for the development and production of an “Advanced Control Module” (ACM), slated for series production in 2028.
Additionally, the company will begin series production of its “Intelligent Power Distribution Module” (iPDM) for another renowned automotive manufacturer by mid-year. The combined order volume for these projects surpasses €1 billion. Production for both will take place in Timisoara, Romania, with development led by the Lippstadt, Germany, site.
These advanced control modules are crucial for enabling medium and higher levels of automated driving (L2+). FORVIA HELLA’s solution, iConF, integrates an electronic fuse with its proprietary ASIC and intelligent control software, a global first in the automotive industry. These eFuses monitor current flow in real-time, managed by software that also distributes power demand-orientedly. This ensures the fail-operational functionality of safety-critical components like radar, sensors, and steer-by-wire systems, even in the event of defects or system failures.
Unlike traditional fuses, these electronic fuses are maintenance-free and do not require accessible placement, leading to potential wiring harness weight reduction of up to 25 percent due to optimised cable usage and more efficient design. FORVIA HELLA’s Managing Director Electronics, Jörg Weisgerber, emphasised the essential role of Advanced Control Modules in the progression towards autonomous driving and highlighted the company’s strong technological foundation in body electronics. This recent contract further solidifies FORVIA HELLA’s position as a leader in automotive innovation.
