Don’t get caught out: new 5w30 oil specification available for Stellantis vehicles

Following Stellantis’ acquisition of PSA back in 2020, the OEM has reviewed its engine reliability and oil performance following a number of issues. They’ve now issued a specification change to address piston and bore wear concerns across all engines with codes EB2 and DV5R.

The update is linked to piston, piston skirt, and bore scoring due to LSPI (Low-Speed Pre-Ignition). Stellantis has identified that the correct oil blend can help prevent these problems. The issue is not linked to issues caused by wet belt reliability.

Mobil oil is OEM approved

Mobil 1 ESP Formula P 5w30 is OEM approved Stellantis FPW9.55535/03 PSA B71 2290 / PSA B71 2297 (the “FPW” spec makes it an updated specification engine oil). Please refer to the Mobil website for the latest and most up-to-date oil specifications.

The new oil specification (FPW9.55535-03) now applies to all EB2 and DV5R engines. The grade is still 5w30, it’s a new formulation with updated chemical properties, meaning older types of 5w30 cannot be used.

Some engine codes may specify 0w20 or 0w30, but if the vehicle has an EB2 or DV5R engine, it must now use this new Stellantis 5w30 blend.

Using the wrong oil could cause long-term engine damage and void manufacturer warranties. Your customers may still be advised to supply 0w30 or 0w20 because of out-of-date systems, and there have been several cases where the incorrect oil has been supplied.
